Sri Caitanya-bhagavata is a famous book describing the pastimes of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. This biography of Lord Caitanya was written in Bengali by Srila Vrndavana dasa Thakura and it particularly describes Lord Caitanya’s early years. Sri Caitanya-caritamrta is considered its sequel and its author Srila Krsnadasa Kaviraja Gosvami has emphatically requested his readers to read Sri Caitanya-bhagavata, thus revealing its paramount importance in the Gaudiya Vaisnava heritage. There is an elaborate commentary on Sri Caitanya-bhagavata entitled Gaudiya-bhasya by Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura.
This great literature with its learned commentary is still printed in a single large volume and studied by followers of Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Sarasvati Thakura. The text and its commentary have been translated into English by Sri Bhumipati Prabhu, a disciple of Srila Prabhupada, and published from 1998 to 2005 in seven volumes.
Our classes on Sri Caitanya-bhagavata with Gaudiya-bhasya are meant to inspire and benefit Srila Prabhupada’s committed followers who actively participate in ISKCON as per his instructions and who regularly read his books.
When: Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm. Please note that the first session will be on Sunday 4 April 2021 (the appearance of Sri Srivasa Pandita).
